The Appomattox Town Council held a public hearing on Monday, June 8, 2009 at 7:00 pm at the Appomattox Municipal Building, 210 Linden Street, Appomattox, Virginia with Mayor Harvey presiding.

Members present: Bryan J. Baine, N.H. “Jimmy” Mayberry, C. Lewis McDearmon, John T. “Plicky” Williams, Karl E. Carter, Jennifer Jamerson-Scruggs.

Others: Carlton Duck, Derek Norfield, Barbara Shelton, William Goodrich, June Goodrich, Mary Lou Spiggle, Timmy Garrett, Jonathan Garrett, Bart S. Van Nieuwenhuise, Town Manager and Roxanne Paulette, Town Clerk.

Mayor Harvey called the public hearing to order.

Mayor Harvey stated the purpose of this hearing being to receive public comments concerning the following:

Proposed FY 2010 Budget for the Town of Appomattox – In accordance with §15.2-2506 Code of Virginia, the following is a brief synopsis of the budget proposed by the Town of Appomattox for FY 2010:

GENERAL FUND EXPENDITURES TOURISM FUND EXPENDITURES WATER FUND EXPENDITURES SEWER FUND EXPENDITURES TOTAL EXPENDITURES

GENERAL FUND REVENUE TOURISM FUND EXPENDITURES WATER FUND EXPENDITURES SEWER FUND EXPENDITURES TOTAL REVENUE

Documentation has been available at the Town Office on 210 Linden Street, Appomattox, Virginia from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Citizen Comments: Barbara Shelton – There is an awful lot in the tourism budget. Mr. Van Nieuwenhuise – It is about the same as last year. Barbara Shelton – Still too much Mr. Van Nieuwenhuise – So noted. Barbara Shelton – Was the $8000 for fireworks in the budget? Mr. Van Nieuwenhuise – It will be taken from the FY 09 tourism budget

Mr. Goodrich – If the town connects to the waterline what effect will it have on the water rates? Mr. Van Nieuwenhuise – If the town were to connect to the water line it would not be within the next budget year therefore having no effect on the rates for the FY 2010.
