REGULAR MEETING - October 12, 2004
A regular meeting of the Appomattox Town Council was held.on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building with Mayor Spiggle, presiding.
Members present: J oyce Bennett, C. Lewis McDearmon, Jr., J ohn 1. Wilson, Steve E. Lawson. Absent: N. H. “Jimmy” Mayberry, Marvin H. Mitchell.
Others present: Lillie Adams, Herb Chambers, Nelson Pankey, Carlton Duck, Chad Denton, Times Virginian Newspaper, Larry Mobley, Frank A. Wright, Jr., Town Attorney, David T. Garrett, Jr., Town Manager, Roxanne W. Mundy, Town Clerk.
Mayor Spiggle welcomed all the visitors, Mayor Spiggle opened the meeting with an invocation.
On a motion by Councilmember Bennett, seconded by Councilmember McDearmon, Council voted to approve the consent agenda with the addition of NB-4 Closed Session. All members present, voting aye. Motion carried.
There were no public comments.
Mr. Herb Chambers, Representative of the Appomattox Lion’s Club appeared before Council to discuss safety issues at the Shopping Center on Route 460.
Standing Committee Reports —
Property & Street Committee — On a recommendation by Councilmember Lawson, the Street & Property Committee recommended the purchase of 12 additional banners with brackets to be erected on street lamp poles for Church Street and Court Street adjacent to Main Street, in addition to those already purchased for Main Street. All members present voting aye. Motion carried,
Councilmember Bennett commended the Town Manager and Town Crew for work performed during the Railroad Festival. Everything looked very nice.
David Garrett asked for clear direction on the Lee Grant Avenue sidewalk project. VDOT has questioned the brick edging for the sidewalk. Council reiterated to the Town Manager that it does want to include the brick edging on all sidewalk-projects, inchiding Lee Grant Avenue. .
