WORKSHOP MEETING – June 22, 2004

The Appomattox Town Council held a workshop meeting on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. with Mayor Spiggle, presiding.

Members present: N. H. Mayberry, M. H. Mitchell, C. L. McDearmon, Jr., Joyce Bennett, S. E. Lawson. Absent — W. H. Carson.

Others present: Carlton Duck, Derek Norfield, Dink Lucado, Chad Denton, Times Virginian, John L. Wilson, David T. Garrett, Jr., and Roxanne W. Paulette, Clerk.

Mayor Spiggle called the meeting to order.

On a motion by Councilmember McDearmon, seconded by Councilmember Mayberry, Council voted to approve the agenda as presented. All members present voting aye. Motion carried.

The Council was presented with information from Carlton Duck, Derek Norfield & Dink Lucado regarding the videotaping of council meetings. The council meetings will be aired on UHF Channel 33 and Cable Channel 7. They explained to council the needed equipment & where it would be placed. There will be two recordings, one that can be edited to remove “dead time” pauses and one that cannot be re-recorded or edited as an official archived copy.

On a motion by Councilmember McDearmon, seconded by Councilmember Mitchell, Council voted to approve the following resolution:

RESOLUTION APPROVING CONTINUING OPERATING UNDER THE SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR THE COUNTY OF APPOMATTOX REGION

WHEREBY, the Town of Appomattox agreed by resolution in 1991 to operate under the Solid Waste Management Plan for the County of Appomattox Region; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Waste Management has required updating of existing solid waste management plans; and

WHEREAS, the Region has made significant strides with regard to improving solid waste disposal and collection, and recognizes the necessity of a cooperative effort to meet the 25% recycling rate mandated by the Commonwealth and provide for the safe, efficient and environmentally sound disposal of solid waste throughout the County;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Appomattox Town Council on this 22"! day of June 2004, that the Town of Appomattox continue to be included in the County of Appomattox Region and hereby approves the Solid Waste Management Plan for the Appomattox County Region as revised per public comments received on June 21, 2004.
