Wayne Phelps made an appearance to Town Council requesting support of the World War II statue and wal! in remembrance of our war hero's to be lead by E. Wayne Phelps and funded by the County of Appomattox at a cost of $53,000 or “less to be placed in the Courtyard Square.
Anne. Dixon made an appearance to the Town Council requesting assistance in jointly (50/50) funding a Local/Regional Visitor Center seminar on March 18, 2004 with the County of Appomattox.
On a motion by Councilmember Bennett, seconded by Councilmember McDearmon, Council voted to participate in the partnership with the County. Alt voting aye. Motion carried.
On a motion by Councilmember McDearmon, seconded by Councilmember Bennett, Council voted to approve the resolution of support to the Appomattox Recreation Department for funding of hiking trails in the Appomattox Community
Park by the Virginia Recreation Trails Fund Grant. All voting aye. Motion carried.
Mike Johnson, Captain Appomattox County Volunteer Rescue Squad made.an appearance to Town Council requesting an additional $10,000 for the purchase of equipment. :
Discussion was held concerning the lack of response to daytime calls in
Appomattox County. David-will coordinate with the County Board of Supervisors
a meeting between representatives of the Town, County and Rescue Squad to develop ideas to remedy this problem.
On a motion by Councilmember Mayberry, seconded by Councilmember Bennett, Council voted to approve the request of $10,000 for additional equipment. All voting aye. Motion carried. .
On a motion by Councilmember Lawson, Chairman of the Property and Street Committee, Council voted to deny the request of the Appomattox Historical Society to rename a section of Oakleigh Avenue to Dr. Clyde G. O’Brien street. All voting aye. Carson — absent from the room, Motion carried.
