On a motion by Mr. Mayberry, seconded by Mr. Bass, Council voted that they would accept the donation of the land for the Watt Abbitt Memorial Park and all those present voting Aye. Motion carried.
On a motion by Mr. Mayberry, seconded by C. Lewis McDearmon, Council voted to meet in closed session to discuss a personnel matter, specifically the hiring of a Wastewater Treatment Operator, as permitted by VA Code, Section 2.1-344 (A) (1).
Now, Therefore, Be it Resolved that the Appomattox Town Council hereby certifies that to the best of each members knowledge 1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meetings requirement by Virginia Law were discussed in the closed session, 2. Only such public business matters as identified in the motion convening the closed session were heard, discussed or considered by the Appomattox Town Council.

On a motion by Mr. Mayberry, seconded by C. Lewis
McDearmon, that Town Council approves the hiring of Shirley
Marshall at.a salary of $28,000.00 with all benefits, beginning September i, 1999 and all those present voting aye. Motion carried.
