Regular Meeting - August 10, 1998
The regular meeting of the Appomattox Town Council was held on Monday, August 10, 1998 at 7:30 PM with Mayor Spiggle presiding.
Those members present were: R. L. Bass, S. E. Lawson, Joyce Bennett, Marvin Mitchell, Jimmy Mayberry, and Rick Pack.
Others present were: David T. Garrett, Jr., William Phillips, Town Attorney, and Bobbie H. Mullins, Clerk.
The meeting was opened with a prayer.
On a motion by Marvin Mitchell, seconded by Norman Mayberry, Council voted to approve the Consent Agenda, and all those present voting aye. Motion carried.
Steve Lawson reported that the Street Committee had met and recommended that the sidewalk be replaced in front of the Middle School. Also, they recommend that Linden Street be closed as previously discussed.
On a motion by Steve Lawson, seconded by Mr. Bass, Council voted to close the section of Linden Street from its intersection with South Church Street, for a distance of 250 feet and replace the sidewalk in front of the Middle School.
Bass-aye Pack-aye Bennett-aye Lawson-aye Mitchell-aye Mayberry-aye Motion carried.
On a motion by Marvin Mitchell, seconded by R. L. Bass, Council voted to remodel a specified area of the Town Office to include the “old Mayor's office” and all those present voting aye. Motion carried.
On a motion by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr Mayberry, Council voted to approve the ratification of the amendments to the Central Virginia Planning District Commission By-Laws and all those present voting aye. Motion carried.
On a motion by Mr. Mayberry, seconded by Mr. Mitchell, Council voted to table Item 3, Unfinished Business, Car Wash, until the next regular meeting and all those present voting aye. Motion carried.
On a motion by Mr. Mayberry, seconded by Mr. Pack, Council voted to allow the Fire Department to meet in the Council Chambers two nights a month and all thage present voting aye. Motion carried.
