On a motion by Mr. Hubbard, seconded by Mr. Carter, Council voted to adopt the following resolution on the south side of Church Street drainage problem: ~
WHEREAS, the Downtown area has changed with the addition of new parking lots and street repairs; and
WHEREAS, the large storm drains are draining into smaller existing systems south of the Norfolk-Southern Railroad; and
WHEREAS, the area south of the railroad known as Chinatown, has been overwhelmed with water several times over the years; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Highways owns and maintains the majority of the streets in the Town; and
WHEREAS, the Town would like to see this problem solved;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Council of Appomattox request the Virginia Department of Highways to re-examine the storm sewer study made in 1979-80 and re-examine the existing problem of storm drainage; and that the Town will participate in the cost of the study according to Highway Department's regulations; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Town Council is further interested in a storm water project to alleviate this problem as it now exists and would participate in. said project as stated in the Highway Department's Rules and Regulations.

On a motion by Mr, Bass, seconded by Mr. Hubbard, Council voted to not participate in repairs to the drainage ditch on the Annie Laurie Babcock property and all those present voting:.aye. Motion carried.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:20 P.M.
