ref: reel020597 date: 1971-09-20 content: The regular meeting of the Appomattox Town Council was held in the Council Room on September 20, 1971 at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor H. B. Pack presiding.
Members present were Mrs. Calvin Robinson, Burke Guill, T. E. Conner, M. L. Webb, Ivey Holland, and R. C. Hubbard.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
Mr. J. A. Smith, Extension Agent and Mr. Glenn R. Dudderar, Extension Specialist-Wildlife were present. Mr. Dudderar outlined ways of rat control for the Town and surrounding area. He recommended that:
- Existing laws be enforced.
- Incinerators be outlawed or controlled, with regular cleaning and no food to be burned in them.
- Garbage cans should be metal with tight fitting lids and kept off the ground.
- An educational program to start a campaign to kill the rats.
The Health Committee was requested to work with them.
Holland moved and Hubbard seconded that the requirement of each user in the Triangle Plaza be required to have a separate water meter be rescinded. Motion carried.
Holland moved and Hubbard seconded that: One water meter be placed at that property line of the Triangle Plaza, and that a bill for the minimum water use be made for each business place, and for any over the total of the minimums that may be used be billed to the Triangle Plaza. Motion carried.
Conner moved and Mrs. Robinson seconded that the Mayor be authorized to hire a night watchman, when needed, and to buy necessary equipment for his personal car, and to set the pay rate. Motion carried.
Mrs. Robinson moved and Guill seconded that necessary pipe and fittings be purchased for laying an 8" water line in Court St. Motion carried.
