ref: reel020586 date: 1971-03-15 content: The regular meeting of the Appomattox Town Council was held in the Council Room on March 15, 1971, at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor H. B. Pack presiding.
Members present were Mrs. Calvin Robinson, T. E. Conner, Burke Guill, Ivey Holland, R. C. Hubbard, and M. L. Webb.
The meeting was opened with a prayer.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
Mrs. Robinson moved and Holland seconded that an engineer be employed to make a report on what is needed in to bring the sewer plants up to date. Motion carried.
Chairman Guill was requested to see if the street lights could be put on long arms to the center of the streets.
Mrs. Robinson moved and Conner seconded that the tickets issued for parking violations be $2.00 for overtime parking, and all other violations be $3.00. Motion carried.
Mrs. Robinson moved and Webb seconded that the week beginning April 5, 1971 be designated as clean up week. Motion carried.
Hubbard moved and Mrs. Robinson seconded that the following resolution be sent to the Virginia Highway Department.
WHEREAS, Mr. T. E. Pittman, Highway Resident Engineer, has appeared before the Appomattox Town Council and has presented a layout showing the proposed Appomattox By-Pass corridor, Project 7460-000-101-Pe101.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Appomattox Town Council prefers the "Orange and Green" lines as set forth in the proposed By-Pass.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Town Council requests that over-pass or under-pass be included for Route 1009 and that this road be developed at the time that this By-Pass is constructed.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the south side of the present 460 from the proposed By-Pass to the west corporate limits of the Town remain as is, and not be limited access. Motion carried unanimously.
