ref: reel020543 date: 1969-07-21 content: The regular meeting of the Appomattox Town Council was held in the Council Room on July 21, 1969 at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor H. D. Paige presiding.
Members present were Mrs. Calvin Robinson, R. L. Bass, Burle Guill, Evee Holland, R. C. Hubbard, and H. E. Webb.
The meeting opened with a prayer.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
Dillard Franklin, Town Police Officer, was introduced to the Council.
Mr. Kenneth N. Matthews was present to request the rezoning from R-1 to R-2, a lot on Sunnydale Avenue. His petition was read. Holland moved and Hubbard seconded that the Appomattox County Planning Commission be requested to make a recommendation on the matter, and that a date for a joint public hearing be set. Motion carried unanimously.
The petition for rezoning from R-2 to K-1 from Mrs. Helen B. Shouse for the lots facing Patricia Anne Land and on the west side of North Avenue was read. Hubbard moved and Bass seconded that the Appomattox County Planning Commission be requested to make a recommendation, and that a date be set for a joint public hearing. Motion carried unanimously.
Hubbard suggested that the Health Department be contacted concerning a method of getting rid of rats in the Town.
Webb moved and Mrs. Robinson seconded: that the Council approve of buying a new fire truck chassis and cab. Motion carried.
Robinson moved and Hubbard seconded that a new pump be bought for the County Town tank truck. Motion carried.
Guill reported that the Highway Department has erected reflector signs on Evergreen Avenue.
The Town Manager was instructed to get prices on air conditioning the offices.
Guill reported that Mrs. W. L. Chenault had requested the Town to build a sidewalk in front of her house on Highland Avenue. The request was referred to the Street Committee for recommendation. chunkid: 20013 recordid: 1033 page_number: 1
