April 20, 1968 Meeting Minutes

ref: reel020514 date: 1968-05-20 content: The regular meeting of the Appomattox Town Council was held on May 20, 1968 at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor H. B. Pack presiding.

Council members present were: Mrs. Calvin Robinson, Burke Guill, Ivey Holland, R. C. Hubbard, and Martin L. Webb.

Mr. Roy Moon appeared before the Council, requesting support in promotion of tourist travel for the area.

Holland moved and Hubbard seconded: That the Council be in favor of cooperating in the matter. Motion carried.

Attorney Harry G. Lawson reported on the progress of collecting the back taxes. He was instructed to take necessary action against the unpaid ones. The Council approved the attached list of taxes to be cancelled as uncollectable.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.

Mr. R. C. Bartlett appeared before the Council to complain of dirty water when the lines are flushed.

Hubbard reported that the Sanitary Fill is in good condition but the fences have not been built.

The Mayor will notify Mr. Joseph Lewis, Coach at Carver-Price School, that more information is needed before the Town can donate any money to buy a camera.

At the request of the American Legion Auxiliary, Hubbard moved and Webb seconded: That Saturday, May 25, 1968 be designated as Poppy Day. Motion carried.

The Mayor announced that $5000.00 of the Water Bonds and the final $1000.00 of the Sewer Bonds will be paid off this year.

The meeting adjourned.
