ref: reel020468 date: 1967-09-18 content: The regular meeting of the Appomattox Town Council was held on September 18, 1967, at 7:30 P.M. with Mayor H. B. Pack presiding.
Members present were Mrs. Calvin Robinson, R. L. Bass, Burke Guill, Ivey Holland, R. O. Hubbard, and Martin L. Webb.
The meeting was opened with a prayer.
The Mayor announced that this was the first meeting of the Council which was elected in June, and that all members had taken their oath of office.
He welcomed Martin L. Webb, who was elected for the first time.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
Mayor Pack made the following standing committee appointments:
Account & Finance: Ivey Holland, Chairman Street & Light: Burke Guill, Chairman Mrs. Calvin Robinson and R. L. Bass Health & Ordinance: Mrs. Calvin Robinson, Chairman R. O. Hubbard & M. L. Webb Water & Sewage: R. L. Bass, Chairman Ivey Holland & Martin Webb Fire: M. L. Webb, Chairman Burke Guill, Mrs. Calvin Robinson Building & Property: R. O. Hubbard, Chairman Ivey Holland, Burke Guill
Hubbard announced that bids have been requested for a new dump truck.
Guill reported that a new street light has been ordered for First Street.
Hubbard reported that the Town Manager wanted to buy a pavement breaker and generator. Holland moved to postpone the purchase until next year. There was no second.
Hubbard moved that the manager be authorized to buy a pavement breaker and generator. Mrs. Robinson seconded. Motion carried.
