ref: reel020359 date: 1959-12-15 content: The regular meeting of the Town Council met on December 15, 1959, at 7:30 P.M., with Mayor Chas. T. Moses, Jr. presiding. The following members were present: Dr. S. R. Lawson, Mrs. C. H. Robinson, Randolph Gilbert, J. T. Almond, Ivey Holland and H. B. Pack. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read. Motion was made by H. B. Pack, seconded by Mrs. C. H. Robinson, That the Town take care of the drainage problem that may occur on Church St. and corner of Lee-Grant Avenue on the Baptist Church parking lot. Motion carried. Motion was made by Dr. S. R. Lawson, seconded by H. B. Pack, That the town will have a street light erected at the rear of Carver Price High School & the School Board will pay the current bill. Motion carried. A Motion was made by Dr. S. R. Lawson, seconded by Ivey Holland, That the Town have the 1955 Police Car repaired as soon as possible by the lowest bidder. Motion carried. Motion was made by Dr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Holland, That the Town purchase a 1957 Ford Car from the State Purchasing Department at $600.00. Motion carried. A Motion was made by Dr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Holland, That the Town Manager be authorized to sell the 1955 Police Car at a minimum price of $600.00. Motion carried. A motion was made by Ivey Holland, seconded by J. T. Almond, That the Town furnish temporary police service to the Town. Motion carried. Motion was made by Ivey Holland, seconded by Dr. S. R. Lawson, That the Town offer the Temporary Town Police job to Mr. T. E. Mitchell, the salary not to exceed $200.00 per month on a temporary basis. Motion carried. Motion was made by J. T. Almond, seconded by Mrs. C. H. Robinson, That the Town remove the parking meters permanently and that they be stored. Motion carried. A motion was made by Dr. S. R. Lawson, seconded by Mrs. C. H. Robinson, That the Town pay the meter company the average monthly payments until the parking meters are paid for. Motion carried. Motion was made by H. B. Pack, seconded by J. T. Almond, That the Town employees be given a holiday on Saturday, December 26. Motion carried. Motion was made by Mrs. C. H. Robinson, seconded by Randolph Gilbert, That the Town give each of the volunteer firemen $5.00 for Christmas. Motion carried. There being no further business the meeting adjourned to meet again on the regular meeting date of January 18, 1960.
