ref: reel020325 date: 1957-05-20 content: The regular meeting of the Appomattox Town Council met in the Mayor's Office on May 20, 1957. With Mayor Richard D. Robinson presiding, the following members were present: T. Hunter Dickerson, J.C. Caldwell, G.E. Smith, W.S. Gillis, J.T. Irby, and Mrs. C.H. Robinson.
Mr. Brown, the Manager of the VEPCO, on behalf of the franchise which is up for renewal was present. After discussion by all present, on a motion made by W.S. Gillis, seconded by G.E. Smith, that the Town of Appomattox grant a franchise to the VEPCO for a period of 30 years. Voting for: G.E. Smith, W.S. Gillis, T. Hunter Dickerson, J.C. Caldwell, Mrs. C.H. Robinson, voting against: J.T. Irby.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read.
A motion was made by W. S. Gillis, seconded by J.C. Caldwell, that the Town approve sending Mrs. Stinnett to the Police Training School at the Police Headquarters in Richmond for two weeks starting June 3. Also approve 1 shirt and 2 pairs summer pants. Motion Carried.
Motion was made by J.T. Irby, seconded by T. Hunter Dickerson that the sewer line by extended from Charlie Palmer's to the Chilton house at the big water tank. Motion carried.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned to meet again on the regular meeting date of June 17, 1957.
