ref: reel020310 date: 1955-12-19 content: The regular meeting of the Town Council met in the Mayor's Office on December 19, 1955 at 7:30 p.m., with Mayor Richard D. Robinson presiding. The following members were present: Mrs. C. H. Robinson, G. E. Smith, J. T. Irby, T. Hunter-Dickerson, J. C. Caldwell, and W. S. Gills.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved as read.
A Motion was made by G. E. Smith, seconded by W. S. Gills that 'No Parking' signs be put up on Lee-Grant Avenue from Dr. Christian's house on west to C. S. Jenkins corner. Motion carried.
A motion was made by J. C. Caldwell seconded by W. S. Gills, that the Town give $5.00 to each of the thirteen Firemen and Town Employees as a Christmas gift. Motion carried.
Motion was made by G. E. Smith, seconded by Mrs. C. H. Robinson that the Town spend the sum of $50.00 on the parking lot by putting cinders on it and rolling same, provided it is agreeable to owners. Motion carried.
Motion made by G. E. Smith, seconded by J. T. Irby, that the Budget for the Town of Appomattox for 1956 be approved as prepared by the Finance Committee. Motion carried.
Motion was made by Mrs. C. H. Robinson seconded by G. E. Smith that the Mayor be allowed to appoint a Public Relations Committee consisting of one Council Member and 2 Town Citizens, and a sum of $75.00 be set up for expenses. Motion carried.
Motion was made by J. T. Irby that the Town of Appomattox fire Mr. M. A. Stanley. This motion did not receive a second.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned to meet again on the regular meeting date of January 16, 1956.
