The regular meeting of the Appomattox Town Council met in the Mayor's Office on April 20, with Mayor G. B. Buchanan presiding. The following members were present: J. E. Jamerson, C. T. Moses, Jr., J. T. Almond, Mrs. C. H. Robinson, Grover Smith.

Mr. Thacker from the League of Municipalities met with the Council to see if they would reconsider and join the League for 1953. A motion was made by C. T. Moses, Jr. seconded by J. T. Almond that the town join the League for 1953. Motion carried.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved as read.

Mr. J. C. Caldwell tendered his resignation as Councilman to be effective immediately. Motion was made by J. E. Jamerson seconded by J. T. Almond that Mr. Caldwell's resignation be accepted. Motion carried.

A motion was made by J. T. Almond, seconded by Mrs. C. H. Robinson that Grover Smith be appointed Councilman to fill the unexpired term made vacant by the resignation of J. C. Caldwell. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Mrs. C. H. Robinson, seconded by J. E. Jamerson that the action taken by the Town Council at the last meeting to purchase the Lee Theatre Ball park be rescinded. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Mrs. C. H. Robinson, seconded by J. E. Jamerson that the Town of Appomattox purchase the Lee Theatre Ball Park, land and fixtures complete at a price of $4,000.00. Motion carried.

A motion was made by C. T. Moses, Jr. seconded by J. T. Almond that the Town Manager get a surveyor to make a plot of the Street by the Ice Plant to the Railroad. Motion carried.

Motion was made by Mrs. C. H. Robinson seconded by Grover Smith that C. J. Hunter be appointed Bail Bond Commissioner for the Town of Appomattox. Motion carried.

A motion was made by J. E. Jamerson, seconded by Mrs. C. H. Robinson, that the Town of Appomattox put the pipe under the D. L. Robertson Photo Shop if the town will furnish the pipe, also below Church Street to the street at Appomattox Oil Company. Motion carried.

A motion was made by J. E. Jamerson, seconded by Mrs. C. H. Robinson, that the Town request the Department of Highways to make a survey on the left side of Route 100 from Virginia Avenue for sidewalks the same distance as before. Motion carried.

Motion was made by Mrs. C. H. Robinson, seconded by C. T. Moses, Jr. that the Town Manager purchase a filling cabinet for the Mayor's Office. chunkid: 19763 recordid: 783 page_number: 1
