December 15, 1952 Meeting Minutes

The regular meeting of the Appomattox Town Council met in the Mayor's Office on December 15, 1952, with Mayor G.B. Buchanan presiding.

The following members were present: Chas. F. James, J.C. Caldwell, J.E. Jamerson, C.T. Moses, Jr., J.T. Almond.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved as read.

A delegation from Carver High School appeared before the Council and requested some street lights be installed in front and around the school. On motion made by Chas. F. James, seconded by J.E. Jamerson, the matter was turned over to the Street Committee for recommendation. The motion was carried.

The question came up about having the Treasurers Accounts audited. The Council requested the Treasurer to see Mr. Garland Plunkett to see if he could make the audit and what would be the cost to the town.

A motion was made by Chas. F. James, seconded by C.T. Moses, Jr., that the Town Manager order a pair of uniform trousers for Officer M.A. Stanley. Motion carried.

On a motion made by C.T. Moses, Jr., seconded by Chas. F. James that the Town Ordinance for water solicitations that was passed on October 17, 1949: 'All water bills not paid by the 10th day of the month succeeding the presentation of the bill, the water shall be cut off and one dollar charged for turning it on again,' to immediately, on December 15, 1952, a new Ordinance, which is in effect immediately, reads as follows: 'All water bills not paid on or before the 25th day of each month, on which the water bill is presented, the water will be cut off on the 26th day of the month, and a $1.00 charge will be made to turn it on again.'
