ref: reel020265 date: 1952-03-17 content: A regular meeting of the Appomattox Town Council was held on March 17, 1952 with Mayor G. B. Buchanan presiding and the following members present: Chas. F. James, J. E. Jamerson, C. T. Moses, Jr., J. T. Almond and Mrs. C. H. Robinson. Vane Patterson and his delegation appeared before the council to see if the Town would do its share of the street from Liberty Road to the Town limits if the right of way is acquired and the State would meet the Town end with a development. Without any official action they were assured of the Town's participation at the proper time though the street committes, building permits to J. E. Jamerson, Fred Smith & Ego. Johnson were approved. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. A letter from Mr. Jeakson of the N&W Railway Co. pertaining to the shelter shed at the local station was read. On a motion by Chas. F. James, seconded by C. T. Moses, Jr. and carried Mrs. J. J. Hunter was appointed successor to the present Town Manager beginning March 15, 1952 at a monthly salary of $225.00. Upon recommendation by the Town Manager a duly carried motion the monthly salary of John Stevens was increased from $140.00 to $150.00 per month and the salary of John Stevens put at $130.00 monthly or 80 cents per hour. He to make his choice and work one half day on Saturdays or in addition chooses the monthly salary. On a motion by J. T. Almond, seconded by J. E. Jamerson and carried the salaries of the policemen shall be increased 10% effective May 1, 1952 with no more increases within 12 months from this date. On a motion by Mrs. C. H. Robinson, seconded by J. E. Jamerson and carried the Town will purchase some Street Name Signs as reccoomended by the Street Committee. On a motion adjourned. Signed G. B. Buchanan Mayor Signed E.
